Available Heating Fuels
#2 Fuel Oil or #2 Heating Oil - most common fuel for residential warm air furnaces and water boilers. Dyed red to distinguish it from Highway diesel fuel. Has a heating value of 140000 BTUs per gallon.
K-1 Kerosene or #1 Heating Oil - available in two types: Dyed (untaxed) and Clear (taxed).
The red dyed (untaxed) kerosene is often used for furnaces in mobile homes and in Monitor heaters. This product has a heating value of 130000 BTUs per gallon.
The clear (taxed) kerosene has the same properties as the dyed product and is approved for use in Kerosun and other makes of unvented heaters. It is sold with Federal Motor Fuel Taxes as required by the Internal Revenue Service. You can apply for a refund fo the Federal tax when you file your taxes.
